CBP officer accused of sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl in Douglas

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer stationed at the Douglas Port of Entry is accused of sexually assaulting a minor.

Twenty-seven-year-old Aaron Mitchell was arrested Tuesday after allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while she was walking to school in Douglas the day before.

In a statement on Facebook, the Douglas Police Department, which arrested Michell, said he stopped the girl and asked for her immigration documentation, which she provided. The girl told police Mitchell was wearing a tactical vest labeled “POLICE” and said he was a law enforcement officer.

After checking her documentation, the girl said Mitchell told her he was taking her to the police department. Police say they believe he then restrained her, drove to an apartment in Sierra Vista and sexually assaulted her.

Mitchell was booked into the Cochise County Jail. The Douglas Police Department says the investigation is ongoing. A CBP spokesperson said as of Friday, Mitchell was no longer employed. He had been with the agency since last year.
