The Arizona Coyotes won their final game in Glendale on Friday, defeating the Nashville Predators 5-4. The city ended its lease with the team in August of last year.
“It’s been 19 years they’ve made their home here in Glendale, and so the finality of it … there’s an element of mixed emotions for sure," Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps said. Despite some nostalgia, he says he's comfortable with the team leaving the city.
"We’ve made a business decision, just like when they chose not to have an extended lease was a business decision for them," Phelps said. "I certainly don’t have any animosity to the team and wish them the best of luck."
The Coyotes will now move to Tempe, where they will play in ASU’s multi-purpose arena for at least the next three seasons.
