Arizona Department of Education puts $1.7M toward programs for students with disabilities

The Arizona Department of Education is distributing $1.7 million of federal funding to programs that support students with disabilities.

$1.4 million will go to Special Olympics Arizona’s Unified Champion Schools program. The organization says it plans to use the funds to expand programming in Arizona classrooms.

Another $300,000 will go to Arizona Autism United to reach more children with clinical and in-home services.

The organizations say the pandemic has exacerbated many challenges for students with disabilities. The grants will be  paid through COVID-relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
