A survey from earlier this year done by the Brennan Center found 1 in 5 local election officials are either “very” or “somewhat unlikely” to stay in their jobs through 2024. The reasons include stress and politicians’ attacks on the system.
Ken Matta is one of those now former elections officials.
Matta worked in the Secretary of State’s Office for nearly two decades and was most recently the information security officer and election security lead there.
His work was for both Republican and Democratic administrations, and he says election security is not a partisan issue, but that misinformation is.
Matta left the Secretary of State’s Office last week, and talked about why in a Twitter thread. He’s now the chief information officer at Runbeck Election Services.
The Show spoke with Matta and started the conversation by asking how the last two years have compared with the previous 18.
