Despite spat over Americas summit, Mexico's AMLO says U.S. relationship isn't at risk

There’s tension between Mexico and the United States over an upcoming regional summit.

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has threatened to not attend next month’s Ninth Summit of the Americas, hosted by the United States, if leaders of Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba are not invited.

To ensure Mexico’s participation, the United States is sending a delegation led by former Sen. Chris Dodd to Mexico to discuss the matter on Wednesday.

But regardless of the outcome of those talks, López Obrador said Tuesday that there is no risk of a rupture between the two countries, and their friendly, respectful relationship would continue.
