Tucson company reaches space tourism milestone

A Tucson company claims to have set a record in the space tourism industry.

World View is selling rides on its space balloons for $50,000 per seat. The company recently announced it had reached 1,000 reservations, the largest number of seats sold in the space tourism category.

The space tourism category includes orbital and suborbital flights and World View’s experience, which is expected to take people nearly 23 miles into the stratosphere, roughly three times higher than the cruising altitude of a passenger jet.

Flights will include two crew members and eight passengers and are expected to begin in 2024.
