Fire restrictions to be put in place around AZ ahead of Memorial Day

With Memorial Day coming up this weekend, fire restrictions are being put in place around the state.

There will be increased fire restrictions at eight southern Arizona National Park sites starting Wednesday.

Building or using a campfire, including wood stove fires within recreation areas, will be prohibited at sites including Saguaro National, Park Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Tonto National Monument, Tumacácori National Historic Park, Coronado National Memorial, Chiricahua National Monument and Fort Bowie National Historic Site

Northern Arizona will see fire restrictions of its own as it is seeing extreme fire danger with Tonto National Forests and the city of Flagstaff implementing Stage 2 fire restrictions on Thursday .

Firearms, fireworks and explosives are prohibited in both regions with fines up to $5,000 and six months in prison.

Restrictions in both areas are in effect until further notice.
