Pima County Health Department looking to start gun lock distribution program

Back in 2005 the Pima County Attorney’s Office introduced what it calls “Lock Up Your Gun” campaign. The Pima County Health Department will soon be launching a similar gun lock distribution program.

The department’s Public Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen says the funding comes from a federal grant.

“The way they will be distributed is through our clinical situation. So through our county based clinics, as well as any pediatric or primary care office that wants to be a distribution site," Cullen said.

Cullen says education about firearm safety and suicide prevention will come along with the locks. She added the department hopes the program will start in the coming weeks.
