Grijalva calls Jan. 6 select committee investigation vital to 'protect democracy'

Later this week, the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection will hold a hearing to begin releasing their findings in prime time.

Scheduled for 5 p.m. Arizona time on Thursday, it’ll be the committee’s first public hearing since those held nearly a year ago — when police officers gave their accounts of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Since then, the committee has subpoenaed several members of the Trump administration, as well as Trump-friendly congressmen like Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, who called the investigation a “witch hunt.”

Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva said the purpose of the investigation and hearings isn’t to indict anyone, but is nonetheless important.

“It's to make sure that that dangerous, horrific, violent attack on our Capitol doesn’t, never occur again, and that we protect our democracy, and that we make sure it’s here for generations to come,” he said.
