A key new detail from this week’s hearing on the Jan. 6 insurrection was the revelation that leaders of two extremist groups met the night before a pro-Trump mob overran the U.S. Capitol.
Video of Oath Keepers and Proud Boys gathering in a Washington, D.C., parking garage was recorded from a distance by a documentarian.
Nick Quested shot the video of the meeting. And the next morning, his crew embedded with a couple hundred Proud Boys who he said bypassed former President Trump’s speech near the White House and headed for the Capitol.
Quested told the House select committee that their mood was dark.
“And there was also a contingent of Proud Boys that I hadn’t met before, from Arizona, who appeared to wear these orange hats,” he said.
A Capitol police officer who was injured in the riot also testified to the committee.
She said protesters started villainizing law enforcement right after the Arizona group of orange-wearing Proud Boys showed up at the first security barrier outside the home of Congress.
