A majority of likely Arizona voters — 82% — support increasing funding for K-12 public education. That’s according to the Center for the Future of Arizona, which is rolling out the Arizona Voters’ Agenda, a list of issues that a majority of voters strongly support ahead of the midterm elections.
On Monday, the center released the top issues concerning education. Sybil Francis is the organization’s president and CEO.
“Likely voters in Arizona believe that education is underfunded, and believe that teachers need to be paid more,” she told KJZZ News. In fact, the top-ranked issue in our entire survey — that included education, environment, immigration, election and other issues — the top-ranked issue in the entire survey was ensuring that Arizona schools have quality teachers and principals.”
There was also strong support for expanding career and technical education opportunities, with 78% strongly in support. And 72% of likely voters strongly support increasing teacher pay.
To make the agenda, at least 50% of all respondents — that’s Republicans, Democrats, Independents and non-affiliated voters — must indicate they strongly support the issue.
Surveys of more issues will be released over the next three weeks.
