AZ House to vote on bill requiring AZDHS oversight on dispensary marijuana product

bill awaiting a vote from the Arizona House would help ensure marijuana buyers in the state are getting what they pay for, and avoid possibly dangerous surprises.

The bill, if passed, would require the Department of Health Services to contract with an outside laboratory to confirm that what medical and recreational dispensaries are selling matches what they claim.

The legislation is trying to close loopholes left when recreational marijuana was legalized in the state. Lawmakers cited media reports where contaminants were found in some samples with 20 times the legal limit in pesticides.

The bill includes other stipulations like a fee waiver for honorably discharged vets and a dispensary expansion in certain rural counties. It already passed the Senate on a bipartisan vote.
