Arizona flu activity remaining high despite being offseason

Flu cases are remaining high in Arizona even though we are out of the usual season.

Last week, the Arizona Department of Health Services saw nearly 800 confirmed cases. But at the same time last year, it only recorded 10.

The Department's Deputy Director of Public Health Services Carla Berg says another season is around the corner, along with a vaccine for a new strain.

“We usually see that in the early fall that it starts to become available. And so we will be monitoring that and messaging as soon as we have more information for where individuals can find their flu shots," Berg said.

Berg added people should stay home when sick and to take prevention measures to not spread the flu.
