Arizona Republican lawmakers are trying to line up votes for a possible $15 billion budget, $1 billion of which would be set aside for specific road projects.
However, most of those projects come from legislators’ priorities, according to House Majority Leader, Republican Ben Toma. They are not what Arizona’s Transportation Board have included as top priorities for the state.
Senate President Karren Fann says she doesn't think the spending is extraneous.
"It's exactly what taxpayer dollars are supposed to go for is road infrastructure. As we talked before, we only have a limited amount of ongoing funding. The rest is one time. So this is a great opportunity," Fann said.
The Legislature has a June 30 deadline to pass the budget.
