Valley Metro's new CEO finds a 'tremendous appetite' for public transit in the Phoenix area

The Phoenix area’s growth continues, with little chance of slowing down — even with housing costs growing and water cutbacks on the near horizon.

And having more residents means we’ll need to have better transportation options — both on our freeways and in the realm of public transit.

Plus, Proposition 400 — a Maricopa County sales tax for transportation — will need voters to extend it soon, or road and transit projects will become extremely uncertain.

Jessica Mefford-Miller took over as CEO of Valley Metro in April after serving as executive director for Metro Transit in St. Louis.

The Show spoke with her and began the conversation by asking how her perception of transit in the Valley matched the reality she has experienced.
