The vast deserts of the Southwest often expand our imaginations, and generations have chosen different ways to travel through the sometimes-beautiful, sometimes-mysterious lands. An exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum, “Desert Rider” explores artists’ interpretations of lowriders, saddles and even skateboards and the role all of them have played in the culture of our region.
The Show's Steve Goldstein recently visited the museum to tour "Desert Rider" with the museum's Gilbert Vicario, curator of contemporary art, and librarian Jesse Lopez. He spoke with them about the exhibit, and the conversation began with Vicario explaining what inspired the exhibition.
