For well over a month, each week has brought big jumps of new COVID-19 cases in neighboring Sonora.
Through the week ending Saturday, 1,237 new COVID cases were confirmed in Sonora, well more than twice the 550 confirmed the week before, according to state health department figures.
Federal datatracked independently by analyst Luis Armando Moreno show seven consecutive weeks of increases in active cases.
But what Moreno’s and the state’s figures also show is few new deaths and hospitalizations. Since late May, state authorities have confirmed just two new COVID deaths.
