A reporter was killed in northeastern Mexico on Wednesday. He is the 12th journalist in the country to be murdered in just the first six months of this year.
Antonio de la Cruz, who worked for the local newspaper Expreso, was shot dead Wednesday morning in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, which borders Texas.
De la Cruz, 47, covered issues including agriculture and water shortages, and had also published reports of political corruption on social media.
He was shot down in his home, and officials say his daughter was also seriously injured in the attack.
Twelve journalists have been murdered in Mexico since January. At least four of those killings were directly related to their work, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
