AZ doctor denounces Brnovich's pre-statehood abortion law determination

After Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said a law that bans almost all abortions in the state is enforceable, some doctors denounced his interpretation.

Dr. Suzanne Tariot Sheard, a psychiatrist based in Tempe, says the determination will affect more than just physical health of patients.

“I have had patients who have unwanted pregnancies who deal with suicidal thoughts all the time and are now suicidal," Sheard said.

Sheard has many clients on the state Medicaid system known as AHCCCS. She says many of them are often involved in abusive relationships and will likely be negatively affected by Brnovich’s interpretation.
