Biggs, others question move tying LGBTQ protections to school-lunch programs

Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs is challenging a Biden administration policy that ties LGBTQ protections to school-lunch programs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture told local operators in May to change how they process complaints, and to lay out their policies for combating LGBTQ discrimination.

A memo says allegations of discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation should be reviewed under Title IX. The justifications given were a 2020 Supreme Court case and a Biden executive order.

Now Biggs and other Republicans say the department is trying to force a social agenda on children in the school lunch program.

A group letter seeks answers to questions from the department by July 8.
