Arizona State University remains silent on the impending exits of USC and UCLA from the Pac-12, and the University of Arizona gave an unclear statement on social media reacting to news that the schools are defecting for a more wealthy conference.
The Pac-12 said Friday that its 10 remaining universities met to explore possible replacements for the Southern California schools, which plan to join the Big Ten in 2024.
UA's president and athletic director signaled loyalty to the Pac-12 on Twitter and called the departures disappointing. They added that UA will engage Pac-12 members to make sure the school’s interests are a priority in future decisions.
USC and UCLA stand to make tens of millions more per year in the Big Ten.
The Pac-12 currently has among the lowest member payouts of the top athletic conferences in the nation.
