The Supreme Court’s recent decision in the Dobbs case sent the issue of the legality of abortion to the states.
An initial interpretation of this would indicate that so-called blue states would keep abortions legal — and likely permissible further into a pregnancy — while so-called red states would place greater restrictions on the process and possibly make it completely illegal.
But recent Republican efforts on redistricting and gerrymandering have made it so that some of the states considered to be more moderate or even left-leaning may be more restrictive on abortion because their legislatures may not actually be in line with what a majority of a state’s residents believe.
David Daley has studied and written about redistricting and gerrymandering extensively.
The Show spoke with him to learn what’s going on, and what could happen on issues like abortion and gun reform, for example.
