Glen Canyon Dam could release water without warning

The Bureau of Reclamation is urging caution for those recreating in northern Arizona near the Glen Canyon Dam.

Summer energy demands create a higher possibility of weather-related power emergencies in the West. In order to help supply power throughout the region in those cases, the bureau cited the potential for unscheduled fluctuations in water releases. It says the releases will not interfere with drought response operations.

Water releases can last anywhere from one hour to more than two hours. The Bureau suggests boaters properly secure vessels and campers not set up in the path of possible water flows.
