The governor of neighboring Sonora was recently in Detroit touting his state as a potential electric vehicle hub.
During his trip to America’s Motor City, Gov. Alfonso Durazo visited a facility owned by the automotive parts provider Martinrea, which also has a presence in Sonora. Pointing to his state’s large — but still in development — lithium deposits and supplies of graphite, Durazo said Sonora could be a promising site for electric vehicle manufacture. It is already home to a major Ford plant.
He also says planned improvements at the seaport in Guaymas could make it easier for car manufacturers to export their vehicles.
