A longtime Sonoran law enforcement officer has been arrested.
Benito Barrios, an 18-year veteran officer with the state’s criminal investigation agency, was recently arrested by federal law enforcement officers and faces the possibility of extradition, Sonora’s Attorney General Claudia Indira Contreras confirmed this week. She did not specify which country requested the extradition.
“Of course this arrest has had an impact on our institution,” Contreras said.
She also says that she had not been advised of the impending arrest, and in response to questions from reporters says she was surprised about the possibility of extradition.
