Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is accommodating a request from Coconino County to send members of the Arizona National Guard to assist with flash flood relief.
The county put in a formal request Friday for 60 National Guard members.
Thirty are headed to the county Saturday, as well as 60 on Sunday, and 40 members will stay through the week, according to a spokesperson for the governor. A crew from the Arizona Department of Corrections will assist as well.
The city of Flagstaff announced shelter in place orders for Mt. Elden Estates, Paradise, Grandview and Sunnyside residents Friday afternoon, which are still in place as of Saturday morning.
The flooding is a result of burn scars from previous wildfires, as burned vegetation no longer effectively absorbs rainwater.
