VR exhibit highlights climate and environmental justice

A new exhibit at the Arizona Heritage Center uses virtual reality to boost awareness about environmental justice.

Climates of Inequality” explores the history of climate justice with an eye on the present and future as well.

Curator Liz Kapp said the various installations incorporate virtual reality sets, e-tablets and audio to showcase how environmental injustice is intensifying, but also some solutions to it.

“Visitors will definitely learn about our strained water situation here in the Valley and along the Colorado River Basin as a whole. You’ll learn about community gardens and gardeners can be agents of change themselves and improve their own communities,” she said

Exhibits runs through early December.

According to a separate press release, “These stories of environmental racism, resistance, and resilience also provide critical insight into how frontline communities are experiencing and creatively responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
