An ex-husband's lawsuit could make Arizona abortion access even more difficult

Reproductive rights advocates are sounding the alarm over the impact civil lawsuits could have on women who’ve had abortions.

In one case from Arizona, the ex-husband of a woman who terminated her pregnancy about four years ago has established an estate for the embryo and filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the clinic which performed the abortion. The couple was married at the time, although they were talking about getting divorced.

Nicole Santa Cruz, a reporter with ProPublica’s Southwest office, has written about this case and what it might mean going forward.

The Show spoke with Santa Cruz to learn about the former husband’s argument and what this case centers on.
