In Flagstaff, an area organization is offering a “shower bus” with free showers and bathrooms for those experiencing homelessness.
Wendy White is the co-founder of the Community Assistance Teams of Flagstaff. She says that she was able to purchase and remodel an old school bus with the help of a city grant.
“It is the size, really, of a residential bathroom. Standard kind of size, it’s like seven-by-seven, and it has a shower, a nice 36-by-30 shower, it’s got a toilet and it’s got a sink,” said White.
White says the rest of the bus has a seating area where visitors can get out of the elements.
“Where they can just sit, and kind of, chill out and relax, get out of the sun, get out of the cold, and get out of the public eye for a bit,” said White.
White says the current plan is to drive the bus around town two days a week.
Then, during the winter, they plan to drive the bus around town seven days a week, and park at the East Flagstaff Community Library or several local parks.
