A shelter in place order went out for several areas of Flagstaff’s west side as flood waters closed off Highway 180.
The city issued a shelter in place warning for several communities Wednesday afternoon. Flagstaff mayor Paul Deasy took to Twitter to warn residents.
"Right now we’re doing okay, but everyone please take precautions, make sure you pay the attention to the emergency alerts because anything can change at a moment’s notice," he said.
Daily rainstorms have surged floodwaters across the city and residents in their path are still asked to defend their homes with sandbags provided throughout the region.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the western part of the city until late this afternoon. And the Arizona Department of Transportation said Highway 180 through Flagstaff has closed from flooding with no anticipated time to reopen.
