The Bureau of Land Management has extended the comment period for a popular recreation site north of Phoenix.
Public input on the Black Canyon Corridor Travel Management Plan will be accepted until Aug. 15.
The corridor is anchored by the Black Canyon Area National Trail, which is popular with hikers and mountain bikers.
It parallels Interstate 17 and includes the communities of Black Canyon City, Mayer and New River. The area also sees a lot of motorized recreation.
The agency would like to analyze different routes, possibly eliminate some and create new recreation opportunities in others.
“Possibly eliminate some redundant routes that go to the same places or parallel each other, also those areas that they go through riparian areas, washes, areas where there might be sensitive species or historic or archeological resources,” said Chris Wonderly of the BLM.
