A flash flood watch has started at noon today in the Phoenix area. Heavy rains are possible, with a 25% chance of flash flooding through tonight and into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Meteorologist Isaac Smith is with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
“So we’re going to be looking at the potential for thunderstorms to develop across the area, capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, which could produce flash flooding,” Smith said.
He says monsoon rains are expected to continue throughout the rest of the week. Flagstaff also has a flash flood watch in effect.
An active monsoon storm pattern will continue to elevate the rain chances across the region. Some of the heavier activity will cause locally heavy rainfall, which can precipitate flash flooding. Stay tuned in for further forecast updates throughout the day. #AZwx #CAwx pic.twitter.com/zzj5wDk6Sw
