Storms, possible flooding in Flagstaff, northern Arizona

For the rest of the week and into the weekend, much of northern Arizona, including the Flagstaff area, is  forecast to see gusty winds and heavy rain. Localized flooding is a risk Wednesday.

Flagstaff city spokesperson, Sarah Langley, says flood potential in the wildfire-caused burn scar area is a concern.

“As we proceed through the monsoon season, the burn scar becomes more saturated which means the soil is more damp and even less able to absorb rainwater," Langley said.

The city of Flagstaff  website offers advice and resource information about flood insurance and where to get sand bags.

Farther south, in the Phoenix area, there is a  30%chance of rain the next couple days, with likelihood increasing as it gets closer to the weekend.
