Royse Contemporary celebrates 5th year in Scottsdale with 'Summer Spectacular' exhibition

The Valley’s art scene has grown dramatically in recent years, offering not only more artists but a greater variety of genres and niches from downtown Phoenix to the east and west sides.

One of the traditional staples is near Old Town Scottsdale, where galleries offer western to contemporary styles. But the area hasn’t been free from the impact of the pandemic and fewer patrons walking past and into galleries.

Royse Contemporary is marking its fifth year in Scottsdale with its third Summer Spectacular right now. Royse had been a curator at monOrchid on Roosevelt Row until leaving in 2016 to open her own place.

The Show's Steve Goldstein recently stopped by her Scottsdale gallery and spoke with her, starting by asking how contemporary art fits into Old Town’s Main Street scene.
