Prison riot erupts into violence on the streets of Mexican border town

A prison riot spilled into the streets of a Mexican border town Thursday, leaving nine dead.

Officials say a clash between members of rival gangs inside a prison in the border town of Ciudad Juarez Thursday afternoon left two dead and at least 20 injured.

Then the violence spread, with cartel gunmen taking revenge by setting fire to vehicles and businesses and shooting up the city.

The violence left at least nine people dead, including four radio station employees broadcasting outside a pizza shop, and convenience store employees and patrons.

Officials said six people were arrested early Friday, and 10 people had been taken into custody by mid-morning.

The violence comes just two days after cartels rampaged through two cities in western Mexico amid a clash with the military.
