Federal officials to tour burn scars and flood mitigations in Coconino County

Federal officials will be in northern Arizona on Wednesday to see the damage from two monsoon rains on several burn scars in the region.

Representatives for Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly as well as the U.S. departments of Agriculture and Transportation will be in Flagstaff to observe measures taken on the national forest to manage flooding.

Flood waters have damaged homes throughout Flagstaff, destroyed roads and left residents footing the bill now in the millions of dollars. County officials have asked the National Resource Conservation Service for funding help.

Watersheds on the San Francisco Peaks that burned in two wildfires this year have led to the now almost daily flooding in the region and continue to threaten more than 1,500 homes.
