This New Mexico teacher is the newest astronomer in residence at the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon’s new astronomer in residence is spending the month of August at the national park.

Lauren Camp was selected by the Grand Canyon Conservancy for the position. She’s a poet and creative writing teacher from New Mexico.

The program itself is relatively new — it only started last year. It’s open to both professional and amateur astronomers, as well as artists, writers, scientists and educators.

The Show spoke with Camp to learn about her experience at the Grand Canyon and why the program appealed to her.
