Access to public transportation in the Valley has improved in recent years — the pandemic notwithstanding — with the introduction of light rail and more buses being put on the streets. But the phrase “car culture” still describes this place quite well.
Some innovative thinkers, however, would like to see that change — at least a little bit to “cart culture.” The cart in this case refers to golf carts.
The retirement community of Sun City was one of the first in the nation where residents got around mostly using golf carts, but other communities are starting to adopt them as well in response to climate change, gas prices and car maintenance costs, among other things.
