Rusty Bowers says support for Donald Trump is eroding

Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers says that support for Donald Trump is eroding and his base in shrinking.

In an MSNBC interview, he says that many Republicans have reacted negatively towards the former president and his rhetoric.

“I have many, many, many friends who are members of the GOP. They don’t act in that way at all. They are horrified at what’s happening in their party,” Bowers said.

Bowers’ criticism follows his comments while testifying before the Jan. 6 committee investigating the Capitol insurrection.

He also said he didn't think Trump would be the Republican nominee in 2024.

"I don't think that he's going to be the guy. I think America is getting very, very tired of him," said Bowers. "And of this constant hyperbole and rhetoric that he spouts. And they're getting tired of it."

Bowers lost his House reelection bid to David Farnsworth earlier this month in the Republican primary.
