APS: Arizona prepared to meet energy demand of Valley's excessive heat

With an extreme heat wave in much of the West, California is experiencing record demand for energy. Residents in that state are being urged to reduce their electricity use during the hottest part of the day.

Justin Joiner, vice president of resource management for Arizona Public Service, said even with excessive heat warnings in the Valley, customers here won’t experience what’s happening in California.

“It is very hot here in Phoenix but we plan for 116-degree temps and so we basically are prepared for this as business as usual here in Phoenix," Joiner said.

Joiner also said another difference is that APS power generation stations are fully operational while in California, some are offline right now.
