Tempe Healing Field honors victims of 9/11

The 21st-annual Tempe Healing Field tribute is taking place at Tempe Beach Park through Sunday. The Sept. 11 memorial honors those who lost their lives in the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

Event chairman Nick Bastian says there is much work that goes into setting up the tribute.

“There’s hundreds of hours that go into planning the event and raising funds for the event and just to make sure that it continues each year,” he says.

A couple hundred volunteers came out Friday morning to put up about 3,000 American flags at the park. The tribute includes a 5K run, a Freedom concert and candlelight vigil.
