When President Joe Biden took office, he called for a 60-day pause on border-wall construction.
But one government agency didn’t take long to start building again.
The Center for Biological Diversity has found that the Army Corps of Engineers resumed border wall construction along the Rio Grande River just 10 days into the pause.
It says the agency had clearance to repair levees, but then added concrete barriers. Paulo Lopes, a spokesman for the center, said that border wall construction in all states can interfere with the migration of wildlife.
“There is no environmental review. There’s no Clean Air Act. There’s no Clean Water Act. There’s no endangered species review. So, they basically got to do construction without following any law,” Lopes said.
He says that migration of animals such as the ocelot can be impacted by the border wall.
