Work begins on improvements at Sonoran port in Guaymas

Work has begun on improvements promised at a major port in Sonora.

One of the most significant infrastructure investments proposed by Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo is what he calls the modernization of the port in Guaymas, near the popular beach town of San Carlos.

And this week, work began on the project. Improvements to bulk storage got underway, as did the construction of roads to ease the entry of goods to the port.

This first phase of work is expected to cost some $30 million, but last year Durazo said that federal authorities had committed roughly $150 million to the port’s modernization.
