An investigative journalist searches for the truth behind a young friend's murder

Ben Westhoff was 28 when he met Jorell Cleveland, who was then 8 years old.

Westhoff lived in a wealthy neighborhood in St. Louis and Cleveland lived about a mile away — but in one of the area’s poorest neighborhoods.

The two were paired by Big Brothers Big Sisters and became incredibly close. But about a decade later, Cleveland was shot and killed.

Westhoff, an investigative journalist, documents his search to find out what happened — and the surprises that search revealed — in the book, "Little Brother: Love, Tragedy and My Search for the Truth."

The Show spoke with him to learn about his journey to the truth.
