Mexico’s president says long delayed highway could be finished soon

A major interstate in neighboring Sonora has been nearly complete for a number of years, but actual completion could be on the horizon.

Once that occurs, there will be a four-lane interstate running all the way from the Arizona-Sonora border in Nogales to Sonora’s border with Sinaloa to the south.

On several  occasions, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has shared rough estimates for a completion date only to watch them pass by — even once canceling an announced September 2019 inauguration.

Now he says the project is going to be finished soon. But asked for a specific date, he was reluctant to share one. Late last year the transportation ministry  saidcompletion was expected in the second half of 2022.

He said the saga of delays is captured by the adage  orden dada no supervisada no sirve para nada,  or worthless is the order given but not supervised.
