Arizona has millions of acres of public land that residents can use for outdoor recreation.
On Saturday, parks, monuments and forests around the country will celebrate that legacy.
Tonto National Forest gets about 3 million visitors annually, and over the years it has increased the number of areas where it charges a fee for day use.
But Saturday is Public Lands Day, and the Tonto will celebrate by waiving those fees. Camping and other charges will remain in place.
Public lands agencies across the country will mark the occasion by recruiting volunteers for work on trails and other facilities.
