The Bureau of Land Management has been working to update a management plan for the Sonoran Desert National Monument, and, after years of work, the agency is winding up the public comment period for the latest version of the plan.
The monument is located southwest of the Phoenix metro area.
About a decade ago, the BLM submitted a new management plan, but it faced a couple of legal challenges and court orders to reanalyze the impacts of target shooting.
Last month, the agency opened an updated plan for comments.
In October, it will have two virtual meetings where members of the public can weigh in, which will be followed by an extended comment period.
