ASU researchers trying to add smell to VR — but not just for fun

The use of virtual reality has picked up steam in recent years, but a multi-disciplinary team at Arizona State University is looking into new ways to incorporate an additional sense to the experience.

The project is studying smell and how it can be added to VR — but not just for fun.

Robert LiKamWa is an associate professor in ASU’s schools of Arts, Media and Engineering and Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, where he directs Meteor Studio and does research on augmented reality and virtual reality.

The Show spoke about the purpose of incorporating the sense of smell into what is already a very sensory activity.
