Report: Security still a top concern for Hermosillo residents, infrastructure woes close behind

A recently released annual report finds that violence and drug use remain top concerns for residents of the Sonoran capital Hermosillo, with infrastructure woes close behind.

For five years running, the organization Hermosillo, ¿Cómo Vamos?— or How are We Doing, Hermosillo? — has published a data-rich report that paints a detailed picture of the city’s key challenges. And for all five years, poll respondents have cited violence as one of the most important issues, though there have been some modestly positive trends on that front, according to executive director Ernesto Urbina.

But he says there’s a lot of data that point to rising concern about the city’s infamously potholed streets, as well as the condition of water infrastructure and other public services. Among the positive trends are signs of continued economic recovery from pandemic lows, and jumps in exports.
