Conservative groups call for members to monitor ballot drop boxes in Yavapai County

As early voting begins in the state, the conservative group the Lions of Liberty is calling for its members to monitor ballot drop boxes in Yavapai County. It also wants members to take a picture of a person, their car and license plate if that person puts multiple ballots in a drop box.

That is not necessarily illegal in Arizona because state law allows for someone to drop off family or household member ballots.

Legal counsel for the Protect Democracy Project Jared Davidson is calling for the group to drop its plans.

"The context here would make any reasonable Arizona voter scared to deposit their ballots. And that is not permitted under Arizona or federal law." Davidson said.

Davidson is preparing for civil action, even if no criminal charges are filed.
